Laptop mistaking headphones for speakers ..

Hello,

I was using my headphones on my laptop and then since I've pulled them out the speakers have stopped working. I re-installed the drives but I've realised the issue is that my laptop is mistaking my headphones for the speakers, normally when I plug in my headphones there is a pop up that lets me enable my headphones, this has stopped coming up. How I do solve this ?? Thanks.
