My Toshiba has a 17" screen so I purchased a smaller laptop for travel. When I put the Toshiba away it was working fine. After 2 or 3 months I took it out, the battery was dead so I plugged it in to only get a black screen. I can hear the computer booting up everything seems to be working: hard drive, power on lights, charge light, cooling fan when hot. To test the screen, I connected the laptop to an external screen and got a message NO COMPUTER CONNECTED! on the external screen. So it is not a bad screen on the laptop it is the laptop hardware not recognizing the screen. HELP I had the same problem with my HP Desk top with power for a few month and the BIOS battery died, I only had a black screen, but after the computer's battery charged back up the screen lit up and is working fine.
