Maximum and minimum values of a column

Hi,
I have a rather large database of experimental values and rather that giving the average of a particular set, I would like to give a range as it can vary a lot depending on test facility. I would like to be able to select a particular column (test value eg. strength, stiffness etc.) and it displays a range of min to max values (eg [400-650]. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
