Can't install windows xp: Can't find hard drive

Hello,
So the problem is : I have win7 on my laptop but now it won't turn on and I want to install a win xp to solve the problem and because my laptop is pretty slow with win7 (it got only 1 gb ram and win7 consumes half of it). Durint the installation the following line appears : Setup didn't find any hard disk drives installed...
I've searched on google and got to this forum but I have some problems. I haven't got any options in bios to change the ATA/ACHI/SATA thing nor any option for changing SATA native mode OFF (i found these 2 answers)
I don't know if I'm looking at the wrong place or i should do something else. My bios is called Phoenix and I have an Acer Aspire (pretty old) laptop if it matters. Anyone can help me ?
