Laptop is not recognising my MP3 player

Hello. My laptop is not recognising my MP3 player. It simply isn't showing up...I', away at the moment on holiday in spain and wanted to use my player to learn Spanish: in fact so badly that I went and bought another one, but that's not showing up either...any ideas very gratefully received! Thanks.
