Lost file/folder on my memory stick while using Imac

Hello, I have 'lost' a large folder that was where I stored ALL my scans. I am unsure what I did, just know that it is no where to be found. Is there a way to recover the folder on a Imac? I have also tried looking for the folder on a friends PC, it doesn't show up there either...help :)
