Windows xp on pc shows connected firewalled internet no access

Hi.

i have windows xp on my pc and a high speed internet connection-hathway .my hp laptop with windows 7 opens to internet on same connection but pc does not though shows connected,but firewalled and in fact no packets are received cannot access internet at all from pc its so disgusting i have tried and so did the computer person but in vain can anybody please help me ?
