Built-in Microphone not working.

Hi there, I have a Windows 7 HP Probook laptop. I had to do a school project where I read a short story, and decided to use a fancier headset, when it wouldn't work I fiddled around with some settings. After the project was said and done the built in microphone won't work now.

It reads sound, sometimes, but when I go to use the sound and play it back there's nothing but static. Now it's even saying, 'an audio recording device can not be found.' When trying to press record. There's two 'microphone, HD recording device's on the device list, but I also did plug in two different headsets in finding the right one to use. I know that I have all the drivers updated and there is one because it was working before hand. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!
