Effects of upgrading MS Live mail

MS Live Mail 2011 came with my computer, and I noticed I could upgrade to 2012.

Will this override anything on my computer where I lose all my email folders/content and calendar stuff if I just download it? Do I need to perform some kind of back-up process ahead of time?
