Computer wont recognize mp3 player when plugged in.

just brought an mp3 player, went to plug it into my computer (windows 10) and it simply just doesnt recognize its been plugged in. i have been on to my pc and it just doesnt list the device? i have messaged the seller thinking maybe it might be the mp3 itself but then again it may be the computer?
ps i have had no other problems with the usb cords when i use it for my iphone etc.
