Need help with custom content

Hello,
I have downloaded custom stuff for my sims 2 PC game. Now somethings show up but others look like stuff that was already there. Like some hair looks like the straight hair. But has * by it. Same with clothes. Plz explain. I have it in folder and I have all meshes. Some furniture is even blue or part blue. And it flashes. Thank you.
