Left key of the touchpad functions on its own

my compaq laptop is not working properly,i frequently use touchpad and from last 7 days a problem is occuring as soon i touch the touchpad the left key of the touchpad functions on its own though i dont use it and different options get selected on its own,please advice what to do.
