Monitor going black

Previously I've never had this problem, it literally started when I got home today.

Basically, after turning my monitor on, the screen goes black after about a minute or so yet my computer and even the monitor itself is still running. In order to fix it, I have to turn the monitor off and on and I continue from where I left off except the problem persists and after a minute or just goes black again.
I'm not entirely sure what my specs are but I believe it's worth mentioning the monitor is years old however it has only started today for some unknown reason. I was even in the middle of looking for power settings on the monitor settings so it can't be anything to do with power saving settings.

Any solutions are welcome, I just hope I don't have to buy a new monitor to find the problem is the computer.
