On Thursday, OnePlus announced that it has removed the invitation-only status for its newest smartphone.
Three months after unveiling the OnePlus X, OnePlus has made the device available without an invite. "As we continue to move our business forward, we will never stop looking for exciting new ways to reinvent ourselves. That’s why we’re excited to announce that as of today the OnePlus X is completely invite-free," said OnePlus cofounder Carl Pei in a post on the company's forum. "With every device we release, we grow more mature and more adept at handling the demands and expectations of our community. We largely owe our success to your unrelenting support, so we hope that this development will make the process of purchasing your very own OnePlus X as smooth and effortless as it can possibly be."
The OnePlus X is the company's third smartphone, following the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2. The first smartphone was made available without an invite a year after its initial launch and the OnePlus 2 was made invite-free roughly four months after its release. "With the OnePlus X going invite-free in even less time, this is a trend that we mean to continue," said Pei. In addition to making the OnePlus X available without an invitation, OnePlus has announced an accessory sale, a boost in the price of the OnePlus Power Bank, and free standard shipping for orders over $100. The OnePlus X has a starting price of $249 and the OnePlus Power Bank will be priced at $19 starting next week.
