On Wednesday, Facebook announced that it is adding several new features to its Live video service.
In a blog post, Facebook Product Management Director Fidji Simo revealed the upcoming features, including Live for Groups and Events, Live Interactive Features, and more. The ability to "go live" in Facebook Groups and Events is rolling out starting today. Facebook said that it hopes this ability will help users "connect more deeply with their closest friends, family, and the communities of people who share their interests," by giving them a new way to interact on the social network. Users can schedule live Q&A sessions via Events with this new feature. The new Live Interactive features include Live Reactions and Filters. The Live Reactions include all of the same reactions available on the News Feed, which are: Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry. These reactions will be animated on top of the video in real-time and then disappear to let others chime in. Facebook revealed a set of five Live Filters to start and said that it has plans to add the ability to draw or doodle on videos.
In addition to these new features, Facebook revealed a dedicated place on its mobile app to help users discover Live videos. With this new destination, users will be able to search live and non-live videos, go live themselves, and discover trending videos. This feature can be found via the new video icon on the app. Facebook also revealed a new Live Map for the desktop. Facebook Live is now available in over 60 countries, and this map gives a real-time picture of what's happening across the globe. These features will be rolling out over the coming weeks, so be patient if you have not received them quite yet.
