iPhone App Reveals Hack Attempts
A new iPhone app by German security researcher Stefan Esser will reveal if you're being "watched" by hackers.

(CCM) — System and Security Info, which made its App Store debut over the weekend, reveals detailed information about your iPhone, including your CPU, memory and disk usage, and a list of all running processes. The app can also show if your device has been compromised, by jailbreaking or malware infection, and can even determine if the programming code in iOS has been digitally signed by Apple to confirm that it has not been altered. System and Security Info displays this information with color-coded indicators; a green light means there are no problems, while a red light indicates that there could be a security issue on your iPhone.

"The biggest motivation behind [this app] is that these companies like FinFisher or HackingTeam that are selling iOS spy software to government and others, they usually require [their clients] to only use jailbroken phones," explained Esser in a statement to Gizmodo on the new app. "So the idea behind that is whoever is trying to spy on someone needs to get physical access to the device, jailbreak it, and then they can run the spying tools from HackingTeam or FinFisher." Esser said that he developed the app because he "wanted to provide the public with a low cost solution that allows [users] to find out if someone used one of the public jailbreak [sic] or a customized version to hack and backdoor [their devices]." The app is available now on the App Store for $0.99, and Esser has promised a series of blog posts to explain further how the app works and what to do if it finds any issues on your device.
