Apple will release three different iPhone 8s including a premium OLED version, according to a new report.
(CCM) — Apple is preparing to release not two, but three iPhone 8 models next year, and all three will mark a return to glass backs, according to a report in Nikkei Asian Review. Sources told the publication that the new iPhone will be available in a choice of 4.7-inch, 5-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes. The current iPhone 7 is offered in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes, and both models feature metal backs. The iPhone 7 received criticism from some quarters that the design was too similar to previous models, and Apple is expected to make some radical design changes for the iPhone 8 to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone. At this stage, it is understood that the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 will be equipped with a curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen, while the smaller models will sport conventional LCD screens similar to the iPhone 7, according to Nikkei Asian Review. The publication points out that the iPhone 8 is still in the development phase, so Apple's plans for the handset could still change before the launch.
Apple is coming under pressure to find a way to revive the popularity of the iPhone following the revelation that sales of the handset have been in decline for the last three quarterly sales periods.
