Customers pre-ordering LG's flagship G6 smartphone will be offered a free Google smart speaker.
(CCM) — Google's Home connected speaker will get a huge boost in its race to overtake Amazon's Echo thanks to a giveaway program announced this week by LG. Anyone who pre-orders LG's flagship G6 smartphone will be entitled to a free Google Home device. Customers who visit LG's website can register for the offer and buy the G6 handset before Apr. 30. The free Google Home offer must then be redeemed online by May 15.
The logic for the promotion appears to be that the LG G6 is the first smartphone, aside from Google's own Pixel, to feature Google Assistant — the same intelligent assistant as the one that powers the Google Home speaker. In the near future most recent Android smartphones will receive updates that include Google Assistant. The Google Home device retails for $129 but pricing for the LG G6 has not yet been announced, although it is likely to cost around $800 based on the phone's price tag in South Korea. The LG G6 is equipped with a 5.7-inch QHD+ flat display, and runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 ARM processor. It has 32 GB of internal storage and 4 GB of RAM. It also includes a dual 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera.
