Apple's Echo Killer May Launch in June
Apple could launch an intelligent speaker with Siri and Beats technology as eary as next month.

(CCM) — Apple may be planning an attack on the dominant position of Amazon's Echo by launching its own intelligent speaker as early as June 5, 2017, according to a Forbes report. The device, currently code-named B238, will feature Apple's Siri intelligent assistant and will be able to control smart-home devices, set timers and reminders, and stream Apple Music songs. It may also have support for Apple's AirPlay technology, enabling users to stream video content or mirror an iOS device's screen to a suitable television. It is likely the device will be powered by some variant of iOS, similar to the way Apple's watchOS was developed specifically for its watch product.

In terms of design, the device will be spherical in shape with a concave top in which the controls will be located. The surface will consist entirely of speaker mesh, according to the report, although it is not clear if this will be made of metal, plastic, or some other material. The speakers themselves will be based on technology acquired when Apple bought Beats Electronics.

The new device may be announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event which runs from June 5 to 9, 2017, but no indication of price has been leaked so far.
