Sega Releases Free Classic Console Games
Sega has launched an expanding collection of free classic console games for iOS and Android.

(CCM) — Sega has smashed down the doors to its vaults to launch a collection of its classic console games on iOS and Android. The new collection is called Sega Forever, and all the titles in the collection will be free to play, supported by ads, and available offline. The first five games in the collection are all Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) titles—including Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, and Kid Chameleon. These will be available from June 22, 2017 in the App Store and the Google Play store. The iOS versions will also have accompanying iMessage sticker packs.

Although the games all hark back to the golden era of console gaming in the early 1990s, Sega has added some twenty-first century enhancements to the games. These include the ability to save games to the cloud, Bluetooth controller support, and leaderboards. Players who prefer not to be distracted by ads can also purchase ad-free versions of each game for $1.99.

The company says that new games will be added to the Sega Forever collection every month. Since Sega has about 1,000 first-party titles in its portfolio, it promises to keep releasing new games for "as long as it makes sense."
