South Korean musician Psy's Gangnam Style is no longer the most-watched video on YouTube.
(CCM) — Psy's Gangnam Style video has finally been knocked off the YouTube most-watched video top spot after five years in that position, the BBC is reporting. Gangnam Style's 2,894,426,475 views has now been bested by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's song See You Again, which played during the final scene of the movie Furious 7, and which has now been viewed 2,895,373,709 times, according to the report.
Gangnam Style racked up so many views when it was first released that it exceeded the 2,147,483,647 maximum that YouTube's play counter could cope with, resulting in the company having to rewrite its play counter code.
"For the record, I joined @YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views. Just heard about See You Again...wow," Puth Tweeted earlier today. One commenter has already dubbed the artist "King of YouTube."
Midia Research estimates that See You Again has earned almost $3 million on YouTube, and approximately the same amount from its 665 million plays on music streaming service Spotify.
But the BBC adds that Luis Fonsi's hit Despacito has already clocked up over 2.5 billion views in just six months, so it may well overtake See You Again to take the YouTube top spot in the near future.
