Facebook Buys Hit Teen Poll App

Facebook Buys Hit Teen Poll App
Facebook has acquired tbh, an app that lets teens run kind-hearted polls with friends.

(CCM) — Facebook has locked its sights on teens around the world with the purchase of tbh, a polling app that has been a huge hit with under-twenties.

Billed as "the only anonymous app with positive vibes," the app lets users create anonymous polls in which friends can participate. The app generates positive and kind-hearted poll topics, such as "has the most integrity," or "best shoulder to cry on," and then selects four people from a user's uploaded contacts to select from. Poll winners receive the poll results as compliments, consistent with the app's strapline: "See who likes you."

Tbh has generated more than 1 billion poll answers since its launch this summer, and the app has been downloaded over 5 million times, according to the company.

The service will continue to run as a separate app to Facebook, but the app's founders will become Facebook employees after the purchase is complete. This suggests that tbh's widely recognized name and distinctive style persuaded Facebook that it would be better off buying tbh than trying to clone its functionality – something that Facebook's coders could easily do in a very short space of time.
