The Explore Feed is designed to make it easy for users to explore new Facebook content.
(CCM) — Facebook is offering a way for desktop users to get out of a newsfeed rut. It is offering a new type of newsfeed that uses an alternative algorithm to select posts for inclusion, according to a Tech Times report.
The Explore Feed, which debuted on the Facebook mobile app, is now being rolled out to desktop users. It appears to include posts that Facebook's Explore algorithm predicts that a user will be interested in, based on posts that are similar to ones that the user has liked in the past, or which have been liked by friends. Crucially, it includes content from sources such as pages, publishers, content creators, and organizations that the user does not follow. This enables the user to become exposed to a whole new range of posts that they may not have seen in the past.
"We've heard from people that they want an easy way to explore relevant content from Pages they haven't connected with yet," a Facebook spokesperson confirmed in the report.
For now the Explore Feed does not appear to include advertising, but this is likely to change as it presents a huge opportunity for Facebook to generate more revenues if it proves popular.
To access the Explore Feed, users can click the Explore Feed rocket ship icon on the left sidebar in the Facebook desktop application. The Explore Feed is being rolled out to desktop users now.
