Lego Art Contains Hidden Bitcoin Keys
A new collection of artworks contains the keys to a variety of cryptocurrency wallets that anyone can claim.

(CCM) — The keys to stashes of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin and Litecoin have been hidden in a collection of Lego artworks called New Money.

Andy Bauch, a Los Angeles-based artist, has created a number of abstract works and "portraits of low wage workers who are in the process of being phased out by automation" using Lego bricks. To create them he bought $10,000 worth of a variety of cryptocurrencies and stored then in digital wallets. He then ran the private keys to those wallets through various algorithms he created to generate the artworks.

Bauch has also posted the wallets on his website and the images on Artsy, and anyone is free to look at the artworks and try to decode each one to regenerate the private key it contains. Anyone who is successful can help themselves to the cryptocurrency in the corresponding wallet using that key.

The artist has also offered to give a clue on how to decode a particular image to anyone who purchases the artwork, although there is no guarantee that the cryptocurrency will not be claimed by someone else first.

He says that the central questions at the root of the New Money collection are: "What is the value of art? And for that matter, what is the value of money?"
