Instagram has launched a Focus mode feature that allows users to blur the background when tapping a photo within the app.
(CCM) — Photo-sharing app Instagram has launched a new feature on its platform that enables users to take professional shots. The new feature is called Focus mode, and it mimics Portrait mode — found on professional cameras and high quality smartphones, like iPhone X — for smartphones that don't have a dual-lens rear camera. As such, the new Instagram feature allows users to tap a photo to blur the background and focus on the subject. The Focus option has been placed next to the "Superzoom" option, under the record button.
As of now, the new feature is limited to users who are running the latest version of the app. Concerning compatibility of the new feature, it is supported by both iOS and Android devices. For iOS devices, Instagram notes that the new Focus mode will be limited to the iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. As for Android devices, Instagram has not specified the smartphones or the Android version that will support the new mode.
The company is also introducing Mentions stickers to allow users to tag friends in Stories. This feature is currently in the rollout phase and is limited to iOS users.
