Google Unveils New Cloud Storage Service

Google One storage can be shared with up to five family members and provides access to help from Google experts.

(CCM) — Google has announced a new, lower cost, cloud subscription service to replace its Google Drive storage plans.

The new Google One plans start at just $1.99 per month for 100 GB of storage. Plans offering 200 GB for $2.99, 2 TB for $9.99, 10 TB for $99.99, 20 TB for $199.99, and 30 TB for $299.99 are also on offer. Google Drive customers who subscribe to the 1 TB plan will automatically be upgraded to the 2 TB Google One plan.

All Google One subscribers can share their storage space with up to five other family members, using Google's Families program. Google also plans to offer free technical support for other Google offerings as part of the Google One subscription.

"People who use a lot of storage tend to use a lot of other Google products, too. So with Google One you get one-tap access to experts for help with our consumer products and services," Pavni Diwanji, a Google vice-president for Google One, said in the announcement.

Diwanji added that other benefits such as credits for Google Play or deals on select hotels found in Google search, will be offered to Google One subscribers in the future.

Existing Google Drive subscribers will be upgraded to Google One over the coming months, starting in the U.S., and the service will be offered to new subscribers later this year.
