The new music streaming service will also be offered as part of a new YouTube Premium video subscription service.
(CCM) — Google has upped the ante in the music streaming market by announcing YouTube Music, a music streaming service which includes ad-free music, background listening, and downloads.
The streaming service can be accessed by a "reimagined" mobile app, as well as a brand new desktop player, Google said in the blog post announcing the new service. In common with rival streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, Google is charging $9.99 per month for a subscription, although there is no word about family plans or annual subscription pricing.
Google also announced that its YouTube Red video subscription service is being rebranded as YouTube Premium, and the $11.99 per month subscription will include YouTube Music. It promised new original video content including comedies, dramas, reality series, and action shows from the U.K., Germany, France, and Mexico.
The new services will roll out in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South Korea "soon," with Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. also receiving the services in the near future.
