Images react to sounds by pulsing and glowing when viewed through Snapchat's new Lens.
(CCM) — Snapchat has launched the first in what it says is a series of new Lenses which react to sounds.
The sound-sensitive new lens is a cute animal mask overlay, Engadget is reporting, but what makes it unique is that the ears glow and the eyes move as a reaction to sounds picked up on the smartphone's microphone. The louder the sound, the greater the reaction.
The new lens was added to the carousel today for users in the U.S., but it is not yet clear if it is yet available worldwide.
It is the latest in a series of innovative filters that Snapchat has introduced. The service caused a stir in September when it introduced its "sky filters" which recognize the sky in images and then "paint" on various effects such as stars, rainbows, or even a swimming whale.
Snapchat will be hoping that its new sound-aware lens will divert attention away from the fiasco surrounding the redesign which it imposed on its users in February. The move caused a furore among many users who disliked the redesign and ended up putting a huge dent in the service's growth aspirations.
