Nintendo Switch Gets Fortnite Boost

Nintendo Switch Gets Fortnite Boost
Switch owners can download the hugely popular Fortnite from the Nintendo eShop for free.

(CCM) — Nintendo has given its Switch console a massive shot in the arm by announcing that it is releasing a version of Fortnite for the games device.

Switch owners can now play Fortnite with each other, as well as with people playing Fortnite on Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile devices such as Apple's iPhone, according to a BBC report. They will not be able to play against PlayStation 4 Fortnite users because of restrictions imposed by Sony, the report adds.

The Switch version of Fortnite has been released to coincide with the massive E3 video games show in Los Angeles, but at launch Switch users will only be able to play the "last man standing" Battle Royale mode, and not the original Save The World co-op mode.

Nintendo's Wii U console suffered from poor sales in its second year of release because of a perceived lack of exciting new games. The release of Fortnite for Switch should help Nintendo's latest console suffering the same fate by raising interest in the device considerably.

Nintendo said in April 2018 that it had sold almost 18 million Switches and forecast that it will sell a further 20 million over the following 12 months.
