Samsung Unveils 'Unbreakable' OLED Display
Samsung has uncovered its design for a new resistant and flexible OLED screen that can really take a hit.

(CCM) — Samsung has confirmed speculation that it plans to integrate an innovative and resistant screen design in its future mobile devices. The announcement came in the form of a blog post on the feature's government verification and could mean that the South Korean manufacturer intends to include it in its forthcoming Galaxy Note 9 smartphone.

The flexible OLED panel was designed by Samsung Display with an unbreakable substrate and an overlay window securely adhered to it, which is far more resistant than the current-generation flexible display products that attach a vulnerable glass-covered window to their display. To prove the panel's resistance capacity, Samsung cites drop tests performed on a device equipped with the screen that survived falls of up to nearly 6 feet with no signs of physical or operational damage.

"The fortified plastic window is especially suitable for portable electronic devices not only because of its unbreakable characteristics, but also because of its lightweight, transmissivity, and hardness, which are all very similar to glass," says Hojung Kim, general manager of the Communication Team, Samsung Display Company.

In addition to future smartphones, Samsung Display believes that the OLED panel would be ideal for other electronic products such as display consoles for automobiles, mobile military devices, portable game consoles, and tablet PCs for e-learning.
