Netflix Culls User Reviews
Users can only rate content with a thumbs up or thumbs down from today.

(CCM) — Netflix has ditched all the reviews contributed by its customers over the last ten years from its service.

A Netflix help page titled "How do I post reviews on Netflix?" now reads: "You can no longer post reviews on Netflix. Netflix customers were able to leave reviews on Netflix.com until mid-2018, when reviews were removed due to declining use. To learn how Netflix suggests TV shows and movies we think you'll love, visit our Ratings & Recommendations article."

Netflix is mainly accessed using a mobile app today, and since reviews are only visible on the service's web site this is likely to have contributed to the declining use of reviews. Netflix may also have decided to purge the reviews from its service to prevent "review bombing" by users seeking to bring down a show's overall rating, the report says.

The service now offers users the chance to give a thumbs up or thumbs down to a movie or show to express their opinion of it. Netflix also uses a "percentage match" system to suggest content to users based on their opinions of previous movies or shows they have watched.

Netflix competes in the video streaming market with services including Amazon Prime Video, YouTube TV, Hulu, and HBO Now.
