(CCM) — Bose is making a bid for the top end of the smart speaker market with the introduction of a new Amazon Alexa-powered device.

The Bose Home Speaker 500 boasts two custom drivers which point in opposite directions to bounce sound off the walls. This results in "a wider soundstage than any other smart speaker," the company claims, "powerful enough to fill any room with an astonishing stereo performance."

Beneath the top of the unit Bose has positioned an eight-microphone array to detect voice commands even when the volume is turned up high. This array can be turned off with a single button press for privacy if required.

The Home Speaker 500 also features a color screen to display album art, play, pause, and skip buttons to control audio playback from Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, and TuneIn Radio, and six numbered preset buttons which provide instant access to playlists and internet radio stations.

The preset buttons can be programmed using the Bose Music app, which also allows users to browse music, and jump between playlists, radio stations, and other services.

The Bose Home Speaker 500 is available to pre-order now in black or silver for $399.95 and will be available in the fall.
