Echo Sub Beefs Up Amazon's Audio Offer
The Echo Sub can be paired with two Echo speakers for stereo sound reproduction.

(CCM) — Amazon has unveiled the Echo Sub, a powerful subwoofer to add bass to streamed music.

The 100 Watt Echo Sub can be paired with an existing second generation Echo or Echo Plus speaker to improve the sound quality by adding better low frequency reproduction. But perhaps more impressively, the Echo Sub can also be paired with two of the same devices in one room for true 2:1 stereo playback.

The Sub can be paired with the smart speakers by using the Alexa mobile app to connect them together wirelessly. It is available to pre-order now and will be released on Oct. 11, 2018, priced at $129.

At the same time, Amazon also announced six other Echo devices, including new versions of the Echo Dot, Echo Plus, and Echo Show, and a tiny Echo Input which is designed to turn any speaker into an Alexa-powered device.

The company also offered a glimpse of the Echo Auto, which allows users to listen to music or ask for directions in a car. The device has a new operating system which should allow the device to start up just a few seconds after the car ignition is activated, and is optimized for voice recognition in a noisy car environment. It will be available to purchase later in the year, initially on an invitation-only basis.
