Google Assistant Now Helps Hail Rides
The intelligent assistant can get price and wait time estimates but cannot actually book a car.

(CCM) — Google Assistant can now get price estimates and wait times for rides to a given destination with popular apps including Uber, Lyft, Ola, Grab, and GO-JEK, according to a report on The Verge.

To get a ride estimate, users need to say: "Hey Google, book a ride to…" or "Hey Google, get me a taxi to…" and then the destination. Users can also get a ride estimate from a particular ride service such as Uber by using its name when asking for the estimate, according to the report.

The ride estimate capability is available using the Assistant built in to Android smartphones, the Google Assistant iOS app, Google Home smart devices, and other smart speakers which offer the Assistant. Initially it will only be available in English in any country where any of the supported ride hailing services operate, but more languages will be added in the coming months, Google said in the report.

However, users will still need to use the relevant ride hailing service's smartphone app to actually make a booking and summon a cab.

This is in contrast to Amazon's Alexa, which can hail an Uber directly without the need to open the smartphone app.
