Switch Racks Up Record Holiday Sales
Nintendo's Switch was the best-selling game console between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.

(CCM) — Nintendo's Switch won the title of fastest selling Nintendo console in U.S. history between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, Nintendo has announced.

The Switch console was the top-selling video game product of any kind during the period and was among the most-purchased items online on Thanksgiving Day itself, according to Adobe Analytics data. That means that the Switch outsold the older but lower-cost rivals such as Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One.

Nintendo has now sold over 8 million Switch units, making it one of the top five game consoles of all time in its first 20 months on sale.

Overall, Nintendo generated more than $250 million in the U.S. between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday through sales of the Switch, the Nintedo 3DS, retro systems such as the NES Classic Edition and Super NES Classic Edition, and Nintendo games and accessories.

The Switch was originally launched in 2017, and one year on interest in the console are stronger than ever: Switch sales in 2018 were up by 115% compared to the same holiday period in 2017.

In December, Nintendo plans to release its keenly awaited Super Mario Smash Bros Ultimate game, and it is likely that its release will result in another significant flip in sales during the December holiday shopping period.
