D-Link Launches High Speed 5G Router
Home owners in cable-free areas will be able to access fast internet speeds once 5G becomes more prevalent.

(CCM) — D-Link has taken the wraps of a home gateway router which offers download speeds as high as 3 Gbps — a rate which the company says is more than 40 times faster than the average fixed broadband speed in the U.S. Inevitably, though, there is a catch.

The DWR-2010 5G NR router relies on a 5G wireless connection, Engadget is reporting. At the moment 5G services are very hard to find, although they will become more common as they are rolled out across the country during the next 12 – 18 months.

The D-Link router supports VoLTE and operates on the sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G frequency configurations, which makes it ideal for 5G-based home internet services, and allows carriers and service providers to carry out remote management if required. Owners need do nothing more than plug the router in and insert a 5G SIM card to access high-speed internet.

The router is also compatible with the company's WiFi Mesh system, so owners of large homes will be able to get good coverage throughout their property relatively easily.

D-Link plans to launch the DWR-2010 5G NR in the latter half of 2019, and pricing will be announced closer to that date.
