TP-Link Shows Off Talking Light Switch
The Kasa Smart Switch has a built-in intelligent assistant and can also work as an intercom system.

(CCM) — TP-Link's latest Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch with Voice Assistant, unveiled at CES in Las Vegas, features a microphone, a speaker, and a built-in intelligent assistant, enabling users to control the switch by talking directly to it.

Thanks to the intelligent assistant — and it is not clear yet whether this will be Alexa or Google Assistant — users can ask the switch to play music or to provide information, according to a Verge report. The switch is also equipped with a night light and a motion sensor which enables it to turn on the lights when anyone enters the room.

When users buy a pair of the devices then they can also be used as an intercom system to talk to someone in another room in the house.

TP-Link has also debuted the Kasa Wire-Free Outdoor Security Camera System, a high definition water resistant camera with a rechargeable battery. The system can operate in a motion detection mode which uses very little power and wakes the camera when motion is detected, resulting in a battery life of about six months, according to the report.

The camera also features a two-way radio and siren, and an optional solar panel can be added to keep the camera's battery topped up.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but the smart switch and camera will be available in the first half of 2019.
