Netflix Tests Low-Cost Mobile-Only Plan
Netflix is testing a mobile-only plan that is available at roughly half its standard price point.

(CCM) — Netflix is testing a mobile-only service that is being offered at half of its standard price point, according to reports by Variety. The plan, which is apparently exclusive to the Indian market, is priced at INR250 ($3.63) per month, just half of the standard price in the country of INR500 ($7.27).

"We are always looking for ways to make Netflix more enjoyable and accessible," explained a Netflix spokesperson to Variety. "We will be testing different options in select countries, where members can, for example, watch Netflix on their mobile device for a lower price and subscribe in shorter increments of time."

The plan appears perfectly adapted to the market: due to the accessibility of mobile devices in India, thanks to cheap data plans, Indians are increasingly consuming streaming content on their mobile devices.

Netflix also tried a similar plan last year in Malaysia, when it also claimed that it planned to try it out in similar territories. The company declined at the time to elaborate on which countries would be receiving the plan.
