(CCM) — China-based smartphone maker Huawei has taken the wraps off its latest flagship smartphone at a launch event in Paris, the BBC is reporting.

The P30 Pro handset features four rear cameras, including an eight megapixel "SuperZoom" camera which stacks five lenses on top of each other in a "periscope" configuration, resulting in a five-times optical zoom. Another of the cameras uses artificial intelligence to take better pictures, according to the report.

The phone also has a 32 megapixel front-facing camera for high quality selfies, which users can compose on the 6.4 inch OLED screen. The screen has a built-in optical fingerprint scanner close to the bottom edge.

Huawei has been banned from selling some of its telecommunications equipment in countries including the U.S.A. and Australia due to national security concerns, but the company is keen to gain market share from Apple and Samsung in Europe in the smartphone market. It does not currently operate in North America.

"Without a doubt, the five-times zoom lens is an outstanding feature," Ben Wood, an analyst at CSS Insight said in the report. "If marketed effectively, the camera could form a major point of differentiation for the P30 devices over rivals from Apple and Samsung."

The P30 Pro will be available in April priced at about $1,200.
