Instagram Tries Out Hiding Like Counts
Instagram has begun playing with the idea of allowing users to hide the like counts on their posts.

(CCM) — Instagram has begun tossing around the idea of giving users the ability to hide the like counts on their posts on the platform.

The feature was spotted by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, when she noticed the design tweak in the code of the app's Android version. According to screenshots that she posted, the feature would remove the number of likes usually displayed beneath a photo. Users would still be able to see the profile photo and usernames of others who have liked the post, with only the user who posted the content would have access to the actual like count.

"We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get," an Instagram message included in the test says. "During this test, only the person who shared a post will see the total number of likes it gets."

In response to this leak, Instagram has responded that, while the design tweak is indeed real, that it was simply an internal design test and that it is not yet publicly testing this feature with users. It did confirm, however, that the addition of this feature would be in line with its goal of reducing pressure on the app.
