(CCM) — The long awaited Powerbeats Pro wireless earphones from Apple-owned Beats will be available for pre-order on May 3 and hit the streets on May 10, according to a 9to5 Mac report.

The new earphones feature the same Apple H1 chip as Apple's AirPods 2 to provide easy access to Siri, and like AirPods they have no cable running between the left and right ear pieces. But the Powerbeat Pro earphones can run for up to 9 hours between charges (compared to AirPods' 5 hours) and up to 24 hours using the included magnetic closure case, according to the report.

The Powerbeats Pros are also more suitable for wearing during heavy workouts or other exercise because, unlike Apple's AirPods, they are rated for sweat and water resistance. They also have adjustable earhooks to keep them in place and offer louder volume levels. "The earphones boast an upgraded linear piston driver that leverages an efficient, pressurized airflow to create a powerful acoustic response in a small package," the company explains.

The overall specification of the new earphones is higher than Apple's AirPods, and so it is perhaps not surprising that they are priced at a premium: they will be available for $249.95, compared to $159 - $199 for AirPods.

Initially they will only be available in black, but ivory, navy, and moss colors will be available later in the summer.
