Nest Hub Max Takes On Amazon Echo Show

Nest Hub Max Takes On Amazon Echo Show
Google's $230 smart display features a camera that follows users as they talk during video calls.

(CCM) — Google is intensifying its battle with Amazon by unveiling the Nest Hub Max, a direct competitor to Amazon's Echo show, Cnet reports.

The Nest Hub Max is a smart display, featuring a 10-inch HD screen, large speakers providing stereo sound, and a built-in camera for video calls which doubles as a Nest Cam security camera. During video calls the camera follows the users as they move around while they talk, in a similar manner to the Facebook Portal smart display which was unveiled at the end of 2018.

The device can play music and videos — including YouTube content — controllable by gestures, and it can also be controlled via voice through Google Assistant, which is built-in. It responds to the same voice commands and requests as Google's Home and Home Mini smart speakers, and for most questions it will also supply visual information on the screen as well.

The release of the Nest Hub Max coincides with the rebranding of Google smart home products such as smart displays, smart speakers, Chromecast streaming devices, WiFi routers, and existing Nest products as Google Nest. For example, the Google Home Hub has been renamed the Nest Hub.

The Google Nest Hub Max is priced at $230, which is the same as Amazon's Echo Show.
