Drone-Maker DJI Challenges Go-Pro
DJI's Osmo Action camera is the first credible competitor to market-leader GoPro's Hero 7 Black device.

(CCM) — DJI has thrown down the gauntlet to Go-Pro by announcing an action camera which more than matches the GoPro Hero 7 Black's feature list.

China-based DJI is best known for its Mavic line of high-end consumer camera drones, but the Osmo Action is its first foray into the action camera market. The new device works with almost all GoPro helmet, bike frame, and electric skateboard mounts, is waterproof to up to 35 feet, and is shockproof up to five feet.

The camera itself is a 12-megapixel affair which is capable of taking 4K video at 60 frames per second (fps) or 1080 video at 240 fps, with image stabilization on a par with Go Pro's "Hypersmooth" stabilization.

The biggest differentiator between the two cameras is the Osmo Action's front-facing selfie screen, which enables users to check the framing of their footage simply by glancing down at their camera.

The new camera also features screw-on lens filters and protectors which stay firmly in place during action sequences, and which can easily be replaced in seconds.

The DJI Osmo Action is available now, priced at $349, $50 less than the GoPro Hero 7 Black.
