Apple Hints At Spotify Voice Support
The new version of CarPlay in iOS offers Siri support for third party audio and navigation apps.

(CCM) — The fact that Siri cannot be used to control Spotify has been a source of frustration for many iPhone users, but Apple has hinted at its Worldwide Developers Conference that this capability will be added to CarPlay with the launch of the new iOS 13 mobile operating system in September.

The company announced that Siri support will be added for third party navigation and audio apps in the updated version of CarPlay which comes with iOS, although it did not mention Spotify specifically.

Other new features promised in iOS 13 include a long-awaited dark mode, common on Android phones, a swipe keyboard named QuickPath, a new volume indicator, improved Apple Maps including a new "Look Around" street-level view, improved photo editing tools, and performance optimizations which will allow some apps to load much faster than in previous versions of the operating system.

Apple also announced a new operating system called iPadOS for the company's tablets, designed to take advantage of the iPad's larger display. iPadOS includes mouse support, a new Home screen, a Today view, and new keyboard shortcuts.

The company also unveiled watchOS 6 for Apple Watch, and this includes a dedicated app store for downloading apps straight onto the watch, some new watch faces, a new "Taptic Chimes" feature which provides an hourly chime or a vibration if the device is set to silent, and new native apps including Audiobooks and Calculator.
