Apple Adds Green Screen to iMovie

Apple Adds Green Screen to iMovie
The latest update to Apple's video editing app lets users remove green and blue backgrounds.

(CCM) — Apple has just dropped a huge update to its iMovie app for iOS to help users make even more impressive movies and trailers of their adventures, according to an Engadget report.

The biggest new feature is the addition of a "green screen" effect, which allows users to remove the background of anything filmed in front of a green (and also a blue) screen. Adjustments are possible using a four-point mask and strength slider, according to the report. This feature is available in many other video editing apps, and the update brings iMovie into line with them.

The update also brings 80 new soundtracks which adjust themselves automatically to match the length of a video sequence. The new soundtracks have a range of themes including pop, chill, and action.

With the latest version of iMovie it is now possible to drop in still images with transparent backgrounds, which can be useful for creating graphic overlays and logos, and photo overlays can be used to create picture-in-picture of split screen effects, the report says.

The new iMovie also introduces support for ClassKit, enabling students to submit video assignments to their tutors via a supported teaching app.

iMovie is one of Apple's own iPad and iPhone apps which is available free from the App Store.
