Amazon Prime Video in Virtual Reality
Oculus and Samsung Gear VR headset users can now watch Amazon Prime Video content in virtual space.

(CCM) — Amazon's new Prime Video VR app lets VR aficionados stream the company's shows on a movie screen in virtual space using a supported VR headset. Users can already stream content from Netflix through a similar VR app.

The Amazon app allows Oculus Quest, Go, Rift, and Samsung Gear VR headset owners to watch any videos in their library without a Prime subscription, although a subscription is required to watch VR-specific content. This includes 10 "handpicked" titles available in 360 degree video including Frontline/NOVA's climate change documentary Greenland Melting, and an Emmy-nominated animated short called Invasion!, according to an Engadget report. More VR-specific content will be added in the future, the company has promised.

Users will be able to use voice search to find individual titles or whole categories, as well as flicking through Amazon Prime content presented on a carousel in virtual space using a Touch controller.

At this time the Amazon Prime Video VR app can be downloaded from the Oculus Quest, Oculus Go, and Gear VR sections of the Oculus store by users in the U.S. and the U.K. only.
