Super Bowl 2024: how to watch, date, time, teams, halftime

The final game of the 2023/2024 NFL season is moments away. Super Bowl LVIII is one of the most hotly anticipated global sporting events of the year, and we have all of the information that you need to know, from the kick off time, teams, the halftime show and the off pitch Taylor Swift drama !

When is the Super Bowl?

The 2024 Super Bowl will be held in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday February 11th. The game will kick-off at 3.30pm PST, or 6.30pm on the east coast. In the UK kick-off will be 11.30pm.

The Allegiant stadium has a capacity of 65,000 and the event will be completely sold out, with the venue able to add additional seating for the Super Bowl. It is rumoured that Las Vegas airports will be at full capacity with around 1000 private jets expected, raising questions about the events massively negative and extravagant environmental impact, in a time where the public are being encouraged to limit their carbon footprint.

Who are the teams?

The 58th Super Bowl will be played between the Kansas City Chiefs (last years winners who beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35), and the San Francisco 49ers. It is the Chiefs sixth appearance in the Super Bowl, and the 49ers seventh. The Chiefs have won 3 of their 6 appearances and the 49ers have won 5 of 7.

Who are the favourites?

Even though the Chiefs have the reigning champions, it is the San Francisco 49ers that are the favourites to win the 2024 Super Bowl. The last previous winners to retain their crown were the New England Patriots in the 2004 season. This year's game is set to be one of the biggest in recent years with the presence of Taylor Swift, partner to Travis Kelce of the Chiefs, bringing increased media attention, and all of the Swifties.

Who is performing in the Super Bowl halftime show?

The Super Bowl halftime has almost the same amount of appeal as the main event. It takes place during the halftime break of the Super Bowl and regularly features star-studded lineups and has become a cultural phenomena. Some of the most memorable halftime shows have come from Michael Jackson, Shakira, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson (wardrobe malfunction), Beyoncé, Katy Perry (the sharks), to name a few. This year the headlining performer will be Usher, who has had a Las Vegas residency since 2021. Details about his setlist and potential guest artists remains a secret, but we can expect it to have a few surprises!

The halftime show is also host to some of the most expensive commercials, with a 30 second slot costing an average 7 million dollars. Not only are these adverts expensive, they have a real environmental cost. It has been estimated that Super Bowl advertisers generated around 2 million tonnes of C02 with their digital advertising, this is the equivalent of the annual carbon emissions of 100,000 Americans in one year. There is no doubt, the impact of global sporting events such as the Super Bowl will need to be addressed in the coming years.

How to watch Super Bowl 2024?

Super Bowl LVIII will be broadcast on CBS in America, and streamed live on Paramount+. There is also an alternative telecast on Nickelodeon. If you do not live in the US, and or are looking to watch the Super Bowl for free, then in the UK, ITV will be hosting the game. If you have a VPN, or install a VPN before the game, then you can set your location to the UK and then watch via ITV's online live stream.

Is the Super Bowl rigged?

There have been a number of conspiracy theories on TikTok and X that the Super Bowl and the entire NFL championship is rigged. Accounts are claiming that games are rigged in order to make profit from gambling, media rights and more. These claims are unfounded and provide no proof to substantiate their allegations. Rigging a professional football game would be almost impossible based on the amount of people that would have to be in on it alone. The accounts that have been propagating this rumour contain links to their own site, with the promise of helping you make strategic bets based on scripted games, for the low fee of $50.

Who won the 2024 Super Bowl?

The 2024 Super Bowl was won by the Kansas City Chiefs who made a comeback to beat the San Francisco 49eres 25-22 as the game went into overtime. This was their third Super Bowl win in five years, and the first back-to-back title since the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004. The MVP of match was named as Patrick Mahomes.
