Cant conect to unsecured networks

Hey i have a vista laptop and i use to be able to connect to unsecured networks but now i can't. Like my dads modem is a linksys and it use to come up as security enabled network but now when i try to connect to it it says unsecured network and my labtop doesn't allow me to connect to unsecured networks. I thinks its been like this ever sense i upgraded y laptop to a 64 bit.

check settings for 'don't connect to unsecured networks'
