Lightscribe uses another laser to PRINT a LABEL on the top side of special CD's -

lightscribe discs are more expensive than ordinary discs its just the way it reads discs which changes. And if you get a dvd rom with lightscribe you can take it that doesn't change anything. in fact lightscribe technology makes use of monochromatic lights in order to read these discs. but a simple disc doesnt make use of this technology.
