Couldnt run diagnostics for hd

Hello,
my compaq laptop doesnt work. ive been using for a year now and this is the first time that ive encountered this prob.wen i turned it on i couldnt hear the noise of the hard disk operating..i run diagnostics in the bios but still didnt work out..is my hard disk damaged?i couldnt even load th operating system nor reformat it coz bios couldnt detect the hd.

it may be damaged.
if it is still on warranty, contact your service provider.
